Onboarding manufacturing engineers new to the electronics industry can be a daunting task. IPC worked with industry subject-matter experts and instructional designers to create an introductory course that takes approximately 3-1/2 hours to complete. In addition to understanding the role, participants will also learn to use documentation control systems, product identification, and product traceability.

Module 1: The Role of the Manufacturing Engineer

  • Define the role and responsibilities of a manufacturing engineer
  • Identify common reference documents used by a manufacturing engineer

Module 2: Documentation Control

  • Recognize the five elements of work instructions
  • Identify the parts of a bill of materials (BOM)
  • Use bill of materials (BOM), drawings, and other relevant documents to create actionable work instructions
  • Use document revision control requirements to manage revisions to the product and product documentation
  • Use engineering change requests (ECR), engineering change orders (ECO), engineering change notices (ECN) to evaluate, create, and manage revisions to the original documentation
  • Evaluate and implement deviations
  • Develop the routing for a specific product

Module 3: Product Identification and Traceability

  • Explain the purpose of product identification and traceability
  • Determine the type of information included on product identification labels
  • Chart data collection points based on product routing
  • Use part numbers and serial numbers to track assemblies
  • Select product labels based on environment and cost
  • Chart data collection points based on product routing

FINAL EXAM
Participants must complete the Final Exam with a passing score of 80% to access and download their Manufacturing Engineering for Electronics Assembly: Introduction Certificate of Completion. Students may attempt the exam up to three (3) times. Please note that a third and final attempt is permitted after 24 hours of the second attempt.
 

This course is ideal for new and current manufacturing engineers that need to learn or review the fundamental aspects of electronics assembly.
